⚙️ Advanced Settings – Fine-tune your return operations

The Advanced Settings section lets you control how Returnflows interacts with carriers, inventory, and Shopify POS.

These settings are especially useful if you work with third-party logistics (3PL), or manage returns from physical stores.


📦 Carrier Notifications

Purpose: Decide whether you want to receive internal updates when carriers scan or process return shipments.

  • SMS Notifications – Internal SMS updates when returns are in transit

  • Email Notifications – Internal emails when return labels are scanned

📌 These are internal notifications only and are not visible to customers.
To configure customer-facing emails, go to: Settings → Notifications

Common setup: Turned off – especially when tracking is handled via your carrier or WMS.


🔄 Restock on Close

Purpose: Decide if a returned item should be restocked automatically when the return is closed.

  • Off: The item will not be restocked
    → Ideal if Shopify is not your source of truth for inventory (e.g., when using 3PL)

  • On: A modal will appear when closing the return, giving you the option to restock

By default, restocking happens at the original fulfillment location, unless you choose another.


🛍️ Point of Sale (POS)

Purpose: Allow customers to return POS (in-store) orders online through the return portal.

  • On:
    → Customers can return POS orders online
    → The system will ask for their shipping address
    → The original order must include an email address

  • Off:
    → POS orders cannot be returned online

📌 POS returns only work if your store uses Shopify POS and captures customer emails at purchase.


💡 Best practices

  • Enable Restock on Close only if Shopify manages your inventory

  • Use POS return support only if your store captures emails at POS


❓ FAQ

Will customers see Carrier Notifications?
No – these are internal only.

Can I select the restock location?
Yes – the restock location can be chosen in the modal when closing the return.

Can I return POS orders without Shopify POS?
No – POS returns only work with Shopify POS and require an email on the original order.
